We are a heavily-modified (cliche) Mud (Merc/ROM base) with Roleplaying
required and Player Killing (within your role) encouraged.

We are also one of the muds which people try to imitate, rather than an
imitator. We also are constantly adding to the mud.

We run on a dedicated system at a top tier co-location facility to provide
the best mudding experience for your users.

What we have to offer:

Varied races (each with different inherent abilities, weakness, strengths):
Human, Elf, Half-Elf, Dark-Elf, Wood-Elf, Surface Gnome, Deep Gnome, Dwarf,
Duergar, Felar, Arial, Fire Giant, Storm Giant, Cloud Giant, Orc, and Lich.

Varied classes (each with unique skills and/or spells, all very different):
Necromancer, Transmuter, Invoker, Warrior, Thief, Shaman, Healer, Druid,
Paladin, Anti-Paladin, Assassin, Ranger, and Bard (bards can sing
nearly 30 different songs). Warriors specialize in a weapon which has
resulted in over 50 new skills for this one class. Near the pinnacle of
their professions, magic users must undergo a transformation.
Necromancers can become a Lich and gain new spells and skills as well as
immunity from dying of old age, though their physical form can be
destroyed. Transmuters can shapeshift into various animal forms with
different foci including: offensive, defensive, utility, air, and
water, or transmuters can specialize in more arcane magic. 28 new spells
for the invoker class which can now specialize in any or all of the
elemental forces of: fire, ice, electricity, air, water, and earth.

A large world:
260+ areas (~23000 rooms), all original to CF. More areas constantly
added all the time. New high level areas as well as low level ones.
Some areas are grouped into different continents, a "past," and an 11
area collection forming Hell (based on Dante's Inferno).

Limited objects, you may have to kill your neighbor for that nice sword.
Object limits that fluctuate according to the player base.
No level limits on objects.
Free recall only for those under 10th level.
Stat-affecting equipment can only help/hurt partially (natural stats are
more important) when leveling.
Extensive help files both in the game and during character creation (750+).
Extensive help files on a home page if you want to read them safely.
Player Killing based on experience gained, and not just levels.
Player Killing impossible to and by those under level 10 to protect newbies.
Age is finite (you can die of old age).
Age also affects your stats over the years.
Death takes a toll on your body's reincarnation.
Spells that are affected by environment.
No Global Channels.
You have to eat and drink to survive (no going for hours without food/water).
Characters have two hands (sounds simple, but most MUDs neglect this).
Alignment-restricted classes and races.
Special Programs for objects, mobiles, doors, rooms, and built in quests.
Vast amounts of new skills and spells for both new and old classes.
Grouping bonus for experience points.
A system of religion where Deities tattoo their followers.
Each Deity has a shrine where you must go to pray for their favor.
The priestly classes need a religion in order to cast their spells.
Guilds are raidable, there is a guildguard who keeps you out but if you kill
it, you can go in.

Cabals to join for protection and power:

The Battleragers, Haters of Magic
The Outlanders of Thar-Eris, Destroyers of Civilization
Cult of the Scarab
Scions of the Eternal Night
Maran the Holy Brigade of the Phoenix
The Apostles of the Dawn
The Blood Tribunal, Lawmen of Thera
The Empire, Lords of Civilization

Each cabal has a special home where their Item of Power is located.
If their sacred object is stolen from their shrine they will lose their
special powers. Cabal item locations are saved across reboots/crashes
so you have to raid to get your item back.

Herald is a mini-cabal that runs an Inn where all players can come to
listen to/tell stories, gamble (to win equipment or gold), participate
in contests (both physical and mental), and interact with other characters
in _relative_ peace.

We have been open to the public for over seven years and have established a
good sized player base. Minimum players is 40, average is 80, high end is 130.

Warning: Roleplaying is required, if you don't want to roleplay go somewhere
else. We also have strict rules about cheating and mixing characters. If
you don't want each character of yours to make his own way in the world
(without the help of other characters you may have), then you should
find another place to play.

So come on over and have some fun.
